The Trachycarpus Wagnerianus originated in Japan and owes its generic name 'Wagnerianus' to a German Horticulturist named Wagner who first brought this palm to Europe in the 19th century. The European name of the Trachycarpus is the 'Asian Fan Palm' and it is one of the most popular palm species in Western Europe. The Trachycarpus Wagnerianus is the stronger brother of the Fortunei. Wagnerianus is a slow grower and can reach a maximum height of 4 meters. The palm tree has shorter petioles and strong leaves with a deep green color, which gives the palm a bonsai-like appearance. In addition, this palm type is one of the most hardy palm types available. It can withstand temperatures well below freezing with ease (-20 degrees Celsius).
Care
Trachycarpus Wagnerianus is easy to care for and can be kept in the garden or in a pot. The palm needs a sunny position and very well-drained soil. It grows best in the garden. Due to its high winter hardiness and strong leaves, it can stay outside even in winter. When planting this palm in a pot, make sure it is a large deep pot. During dry, hot summers, water regularly every week, depending on how moist the soil is. As with any palm, the oldest brown leaves should be cut off as close to the trunk as possible. Brown ends can be cut off. This has no further effect on the palm.
Size
The plant has a height of 55-65cm upon delivery, measured including the nursery pot. The plant is supplied in a nursery pot with a diameter of 24cm.
