Pomegranate Tree - 2 pcs. - Punica granatum - Height 40-50cm - ⌀17cm

The Punica Granatum is a shrub which grows pomegranates. For centuries, the pomegranate has been cultivated both as a decorative plant as well as for it’s edible fruit. The plant grows from a shrub into a small tree with a round crown. The crown is dense with somewhat tangled branches, with light brown, twigs with sharp points (thorns). When mature, the bark flakes off in plates revealing a cream-coloured inner bark. In autumn, the shiny green leaves turn brownish yellow. The pomegranate blossoms almost all summer. The flowers consist of darker orange-red wrinkled petals. They are followed by the familiar edible fruits. These large, yellow-red fruits contain countless seeds in a sweet, fleshy pulp.

Care
The Punica Granatum is not difficult to care for, but it does need a good summer to mature in our climate. Due to its limited winter hardiness (-8C), in northwestern Europe this tree can only be used as a tub plant in gardens, patios and courtyards. A pomegranate tree can grow in any fertile, moist but well-drained soil. The tree likes a spot in full sun. If the tree is planted in the garden, it is advisable to protect it from the cold during severe frosts. Eventually the pomegranate plant can grow up to 200 - 300 cm! Furthermore, the plant is non-toxic.

Size
The plants have a height of 40-50cm upon delivery, measured including the nursery pot. The plants are supplied in a nursery pot with a diameter of 17cm.
