Stipa tenuifolia, or Mexican feather grass, is an ornamental, hardy grass with silvery plumes. It has a rich inflorescence of very fine flower stalks up to about 70 cm high, rustling in the wind. This versatile grass is ideal for a sunny garden, large ornamental pot or perennial border. The panicles give a rustic and calming effect in a light breeze. The plant also fits perfectly in a garden with an oriental theme.
Care Grow Stipa in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. It is recommended to prune the Stipa back to about 20 cm above the ground in spring. The grasses will then quickly sprout again and form new ‘hairs’. It is also possible to gently comb through the grass clumps in spring with garden gloves with your fingers to loosen the dead leaves from the plant. This ornamental grass remains green hardy in winter.
Size When delivered, the plants have a height of 40-60cm, measured including the nursery pot. The plants are delivered in a 23cm diameter nursery pot.
